2017 Kia Forte vs Chevrolet Cruze

2017 Kia Forte vs Chevrolet Cruze

Smartphone addicts and green-minded drivers alike love compacts like the 2017 Kia Forte and Chevrolet Cruze, because they're both big on fuel economy and modern tech features. Which model is best suited to your lifestyle? Read our comparison guide to learn more about how they stack up.

2017 Kia Forte vs Chevrolet Cruze

Comfort

The Forte combines modern creature comforts with plenty of space for tall passengers - front and back. What more could you ask for in a budget-friendly compact? If you're picturing upscale flourishes like leather upholstery and dual-zone automatic temperature control, you've come to the right model.

The Chevrolet Cruze is also big on leg room - a fact that your tall friends will appreciate after hours on the highway. The Cruze also offers a long list of options, so you can up the style quotient with ambient interior lighting or a sunroof. If it's refinement you want, however, you're better off with the Forte, which offers full leather upholstery. The Cruze's leather-appointed seats only get you partially there.

Technology

The Forte's Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is exactly what every road trip requires. This technology displays apps like Messages and Maps on your central touchscreen, keeping you from having to mess with your phone while driving. The Maps app will even lead you to your favorite places - and you don't have to pay extra for old-school turn-by-turn navigation features.

Like the Forte, the Cruze's central touchscreen is easy to handle, providing quick responses to your requests. The Cruze has other cool features, including an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot. However, this Internet connection comes with an OnStar subscription, so you do have to pay extra for it.

Safety

If top-notch safety scores are high on your wish list, make the Forte a priority. In government crash tests, the 2017 Kia Forte earned a perfect five-star rating for overall protection. After testing the Forte's front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it a rare score of "Superior." When it senses danger, it can actively apply the brakes to pull you up short of a crash.

The Cruze also offers a front crash prevention system. It didn't score as high in IIHS tests, but it does warn you to slow down to avoid an accident. In government crash tests, the Cruze only earned four stars for overall safety.

Fuel Economy and Performance

The Cruze outperforms the competition by saving you a bundle at the pump. With a regular, gasoline-powered engine, it can earn up to 30 city/40 highway mpg. If you decide to spring for the Cruze Diesel, you can even earn up to 30/52 mpg.

Still, the Forte isn't far behind. Depending on which powertrain is under the hood, you'll earn up to 29/38 mpg. Either way you look at it, you'll still be saving plenty of money on fuel.

The Cruze is a stiff competitor, but the 2017 Kia Forte captures the prize with its roomy cabin, rewarding tech features, and high-end safety performance.
