2017 Kia Sorento vs Ford Edge

Creature Comforts

With the new Sorento, you'll enjoy luxury-level comfort without the luxury-level price tag. The cabin gets an upscale vibe with optional leather upholstery, LED interior lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. Even at its standard trim level, the Sorento feels posh and comfortable, and we love the options that having two- or three-row seating configurations offer.

The Ford Edge also handles family-friendly comfort with skill. Five passengers can spread out, with head and leg room to spare. However, if you're looking for that optional third row, you're not going to find it here. The Sorento gets the nod in this category.

Modern Technology

The new Sorento is stocked with all the latest in smartphone integration technology, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This connectivity gives the Sorento an edge over the competition by projecting important apps, like Phone and Messages, directly onto the central dash display. You'll never have to look down at your phone again, because the Sorento keeps you connected in the safest way possible.

We also like the Ford Edge's Sync 3 infotainment system, which includes voice controls and a crisp central touchscreen. Use voice controls to make calls or browse music options when you're stuck in traffic. While Sync 3 has a lot to offer, the Edge has yet to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its lineup. If you need to stay connected, the Sorento should be your choice.

The Edge's engine options are specially designed to maximize power and fuel economy, a winning combination. This crossover has plenty of pep to get you in and out of highway traffic without issue. Moreover, the Edge earns up to 21 city/29 highway mpg. We'll take it!

The Sorento is no slouch in the power and performance department, giving you not only get up and go but substantial towing capacity as well. Haul up to 5,000 lbs. of boat on your next trip to the shore. This crossover doesn't save you quite as much money at the pump - however, it's no slouch, earning up to 21/28 mpg. (

Passenger Protection

When you slide into the Sorento, you'll have total peace of mind. This sporty crossover proves its worth with world-class crash-test scores, including a perfect five-star rating for overall protection. You'll also love its forward collision mitigation system, which automatically applies the brakes when it senses an impending accident. This technology is priceless, especially in busy cityscapes where you never know what's around the next corner.

Like the Sorento, the Edge earned top ratings from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. It also supplies innovative tech gear, like the MyKey system, which lets you set speed limitations for secondary drivers like valets. However, braking distances are a bit longer than segment average, unlike what you see in the Sorento.
