A reliable go-around-town hatchback or a sporty get-up-and-go hatchback? You choose your own adventure with the 2018 Kia Forte5.

Why Buy the Kia Forte5?

If you want a nice car with room for your friends and your gear but can't spend a ton, take a good look at the Kia Forte5. It's plenty affordable, starting at just $18,200, without skimping on the tech features that many customers crave. (You'll be hard pressed to find a solid used car with all of these features for that price!) With the affordable Popular Plus package, the base model gives you rearview camera and the UVO infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

True to the Kia reputation, the Forte5 has a great interior, with high-quality materials and plenty of space for its class. Being a hatchback, you have plenty of cargo capacity for groceries, golf bags, or camping gear. All but the tallest people will be perfectly content in the spacious back seat as well. Finally, the Forte5 is safe. It earned the coveted Top Safety Pick + award from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a perfect five stars from government crash test ratings. Together with its active safety features, the Forte5 will get you where you want to go, and you'll be protected all along the way.

Which Kia Forte5 Should I Buy?

The Kia Forte5 has three trims, but before answering which is best, you need to ask yourself this question: sporty or no? If you need something zippy and performance-oriented, get the Forte5 SX. It's more expensive, but you get the 201-horsepower turbo-four engine and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. That's power you can take to the bank (and back home again). If you don't feel the need for all that speed, the remaining trims are the LX and EX. The LX is the base model, with the EX adding nice features like heated front seats, leather upholstery, rearview camera, and UVO infotainment system with 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. If that tech doesn't interest you, save some money and go with the LX.

Can the Kia Forte5 Tow?

Kia advises not to tow with the Kia Forte--this is a small car, and when you tow you need to make sure that your vehicle is heavy enough to handle the load. If you want a towing vehicle you're probably better off with something bigger, like the Kia Sportage or Sorento, towing 1,650 pounds and between 2,000 and 5,000 pounds respectively.

Is the Kia Forte5 Reliable?

Yes. J.D. Power and Associates gave last year's model a better-than-average reliability rating. If you want a good car that stays strong year after year, the Forte5 is a safe bet.
