2018 Kia Stinger vs Buick Regal GS

Sometimes you want a car, just something to get you from point A to point B. Other times you want a sports car, something sleek and powerful that's a thrill to drive. The Kia Stinger and Buick Regal GS definitely fall into the second category. The first Buick Regal hit dealerships in 1973, but the Stinger is all-new in 2018. Which one wins out--old glory or the fresh face?

2018 Kia Stinger vs Buick Regal GS

Even the interior of the Stinger and Buick GS hint of their need for speed. Though the Kia Stinger seats five, its emphasis is all on the front row with sporty performance seats. The touch screen "floats" above the dash and the heating and cooling vents look like mini turbines. All in all, it's a spacious cabin with a classic design.

The Buick Regal GS also offers performance seats that heat, cool, and massage. It offers more cargo capacity than the Stinger and boasts a very similar design, with an emphasis on the dash's dials.

The Kia Stinger comes out swinging with plenty of tech features. All Stingers come with 7-inch touchscreen, 12-way power driver's seat, 8-way passenger, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, steering wheel audio controls, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, push-button start, and keyless entry. If you want a sound system that'll blow away your riders, there's an optional 15-speaker audio system available.

The Buick Regal isn't to be outdone, with its own assortment of tech options, like the standard 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and 8-inch reconfigurable instrument cluster. Additional option include head-up display for active safety features and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. We still think the Stinger comes out on top.

Sports cars don't win many contests for fuel economy. The 2018 Kia Stinger gets 17/26 miles per gallon. Its performance is already pretty solid; its suspension does well, its steering is direct, braking is firm, and the twin-turbo V-6 engine provides plenty of acceleration. It comes with one of two engines, either 255 or 365 horsepower. Plus, you have your pick of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The Buick Regal does better in terms of fuel economy, starting at 19/27 miles per gallon. This year the Regal puts out 310 horsepower, unarguably the most powerful Regal to date. Its all-wheel drive comes standard, with a design that keep the Regal from feeling sluggish. The Stinger has more options in the powertrain,

SAFETY: Buick Regal GS

Because the Kia Stinger and Buick Regal GS are new for 2018, neither have any safety testing results yet. The Stinger comes with active safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist.

The Regal has the same list but adds front pedestrian braking and forward collision alert.
