2018 Kia Stinger vs Buick Regal GS

2018 Kia Stinger vs Buick Regal GS

Some cars float like a butterfly; others sting like a Buick. If you're in the mood for a thrill ride, there's nothing like getting into a grand tourer like the 2018 Kia Stinger or Buick Regal GS, the sportiest Regal trim. These performance vehicles don't just get you to your destination, they make the journey the point of driving. But which to choose? The Stinger is a brand new vehicle for 2018 while the Buick Regal has been around since 1973. In this head-to-head, we'll see which is better: Old Glory or the New Kid on the Block.

Interior Comfort and Style: Kia Stinger

2018 Kia Stinger Interior

Like sports cars, the emphasis is all on the front seats. Both the Stinger and Regal GS boast performance seats even while the rear seats seem like an afterthought. Don't worry about the kids--there's plenty of room for them.

In the Stinger, a digital touch screen floats just above the dash and even the heating and cooling vents look sporty, like tiny windmills. Kia has done their homework and they've made a comfortable, spacious front seat with a authentic grand tourer look.

The Regal GS gives you the same performance seats, but these ones heat, cool, and massage. The Buick has a more conventional look: replace the seats and you'd think it were a typical sedan. One nice styling feature is the dials on the driver's dash. They are slick and beautifully designed.

Technology: Kia Stinger

The Kia Stinger bristles with tech. It comes with keyless entry, push-button start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering wheel audio controls, heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, 12-way power driver's seat and 8-way passenger seat, and a 7-inch touchscreen. That's more than you can say in one breath, and that's just standard features. Add a 15-speaker audio system if you want to rock while you roll.

2018 Kia Stinger Technology

The Buick has some great tech too, just not as many features. To its credit, it offers a slightly larger touchscreen. It too has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an 8-inch reconfigurable instrument cluster. You can pick up an optional heads-up display and Wi-Fi hotspot

Power and Performance: Kia Stinger

Looks are important on a performance car but it's what's under the hood that counts. The 2018 Kia Stinger offers a choice between engines, one that generates 255 horsepower or a twin-turbo V-6 producing a thrilling 365 horsepower. Also take your pick of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. You have to admit, the Stinger is versatile so you get the amount of power you want. And in it you'll get 17 city and 26 highway miles per gallon.

The Buick Regal GS has a single engine option that produces 310 horsepower. All-wheel drive comes standard. While the Regal gets better gas mileage, its lack of options and lower maximum horsepower gives the win in this category to the Stinger.

Safety: Buick Regal GS

Crash test ratings on the Stinger and Regal GS are pending, so the most we can do is compare safety features. The Stinger comes with active features like lane-keeping assist, automated emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

The Buick Regal GS wins this category because, in addition to the features found on the Stinger, it adds front pedestrian braking and forward-collision alert.

Learn More About the Kia Stinger
