No Matter the Model Year, the Sorento Won’t Disappoint

Kia’s lineup is vast, but the Sorento won’t disappoint with its phenomenal performance, plentiful cargo space, feature-rich infotainment center, and excellent fuel efficiency. The Sorento isn’t the oldest model in Kia’s lineup, but it’s far from the newest. The Sorento launched back in 2003, which was the time when SUVs truly began to gain a foothold in the market, and the SUV revolution that kicked off in the 1990s entered full swing. Since the Sorento launch, SUVs have continued to grow in popularity, and many manufacturers, Kia included, have created numerous new models since then. However, the Sorento remains in Kia’s lineup because it has continuously evolved with the times, and nowadays, the Sorento is available in three configurations: regular, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid.

What the Sorento does so well is meet the needs of drivers looking for something with more space and power. Kia has many affordable models, especially its entry-level SUVs and sedans. But while the Sorento might be pricier than vehicles such as the Soul, Seltos, and Sportage, it’s still more cost-effective than models such as the EV6, Telluride, and the like. What the Sorento offers drivers is an SUV that not only performs brilliantly with its most fuel-efficient offerings but also handles towing tasks capably. Since the launch of the Sorento, four generations of the SUV have come and gone. The latest generation began with the introduction of the 2021 Sorento.

The fourth generation of the Sorento marked a significant development for the beloved SUV––it not only received a new assortment of powertrains, but a hybrid model joined the ranks. The following year, the Sorento and its hybrid sibling were accompanied by yet another new model––the Sorento PHEV. Besides the launch of the Sorento Hybrid and Sorento PHEV, the regular Sorento received a leap in performance and fuel efficiency, meaning the generational shift truly feels like one.

Buying a New Sorento

Depending on the type of shopper you are, you may be interested in purchasing a brand new Kia Sorento. Acquiring a brand new vehicle has many benefits, and Kia is undoubtedly one of the manufacturers that make it worth your while. For example, Kia’s warranties are among the best in the business, and there’s no better proof of this than when you’re purchasing a brand new vehicle, such as a Sorento.

A few warranties come included with your brand new Sorento, the first being a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. Such a lengthy warranty is extremely uncommon among other big-name manufacturers, but it serves to help the customer. The limited powertrain warranty provides coverage for the majority of the powertrain components located under the hood. If there’s a manufacturing error, then the limited powertrain warranty will cover repair costs.

The second warranty you’ll get with your new Sorento is a 5-year/60,000-mile limited basic warranty, which provides coverage for numerous vehicle components akin to the bumper-to-bumper warranties you may have seen elsewhere. Between the powertrain and basic warranties, you’ll be more covered than not when it comes to your new Sorento––but it doesn’t end there. Your new Sorento will also come with a 5-year/100,000-mile anti-perforation warranty, meaning you’ll have more protection against unforeseen rust and corrosion to your vehicle’s body.

The 2022 Kia Sorento

The 2022 Sorento takes all of the changes in the 2021 Sorento and continues the fourth generation that kicked off the previous year. Because of this, performance remains virtually identical, along with fuel efficiency, tech, cargo space, etc. The standard 2022 Sorento has two powertrain options: a 2.5L I-4 and a turbocharged 2.5L I-4. The latter of which pairs nicely with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Ultimately, the 2022 Sorento produces a maximum of 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque when paired with the turbocharged engine, and its towing capacity caps out at an impressive 3,500 lbs. Drivers looking to save money will also be impressed by the base level performance if they choose to stick with the base engine, in which case you’ll get 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, with a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 lbs. Cargo space is quite impressive for the 2022 Sorento with its maximum 75.5 cu.ft. of space. And, if you opt for one of the pricier models, the standard 8-inch infotainment center will be swapped out with a 10.25-inch display––although features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are present on all trims.

Buying a Pre-Owned Sorento

Getting behind the wheel of a pre-owned Sorento is a phenomenal idea, especially for anyone who wishes to save money while getting behind the wheel of a steller vehicle. As the Sorento has been on the market for over two decades, there are many pre-owned models to choose from. Selecting an older model will save you quite a bit of money and will give you peace of mind that you are opting for a reliable model built to last. Choosing something newer will allow you to get access to the latest safety and convenience features with a lower price tag than a new model. At Allentown Kia, we’ll get you behind the wheel of a pre-owned Sorento that contains the best features at a phenomenal and competitive price.

The fourth generation of the Sorento launched with the 2021 model year, and expectedly, the fourth generation will be the most modern you can get. However, the third generation Sorento, which launched for the 2016 model year, was the generation where many of the more recent changes took place, such as the introduction of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the 2017 Sorento. Many safety features that have become commonplace nowadays could be found in models as far back as 2016. Saving money on a pre-owned model is the proverbial icing on the cake.
