The Carnival (Hybrid) is Coming to Town

The Lehigh Valley’s Celtic Fest may have come and gone, but the 2025 Kia Carnival Hybrid is here to keep the fall festivities going! Kia’s first hybrid variant of its popular minivan has arrived, marking yet another important step in Kia’s ongoing sustainability initiative.  

Here at Allentown Kia, we’re always in the mood for the Carnival. Let’s delve into Kia’s latest hybrid offering and what it includes.

The Main Event 

If it seems like the Kia Carnival routinely flies under the radar, that could be because it doesn’t tend to linger in showrooms very long; the would-be-SUV is Kia’s quickest-selling vehicle, and is responsible for bringing 65 percent of new buyers under the Kia fold. Now, with hybrid vehicles having a moment – particularly amongst SUV drivers – the redesigned Carnival is taking a page from the Kia Sorento Hybrid‘s powertrain. 

Unlike the hybrid systems that power rival vans like the Chrysler Pacifica, in which two electric motors help power a combustion engine, the 2025 Carnival Hybrid gets creative with its pair of engines. A turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder is augmented by a 72-hp electric motor. Together, they power the Carnival Hybrid to segment-leading torque numbers (271 lb.-ft.), along with a respectable 242 horsepower.  

When all’s said and done, the Carnival Hybrid offers the same versatility and practicality as the original Carnival, but with significantly better fuel efficiency. The EPA rates the Carnival Hybrid at 33 mpg combined – a noteworthy jump from the non-hybrid model. Plus, the Carnival Hybrid offers three levels of regenerative braking – a feature borrowed from Kia’s extensive EV lineup.

Must-See Sideshows 

On the tech side of things, the Carnival Hybrid is taking its cues from newer EVs like the Kia EV6. A multitude of enhanced highway driving assist features are included. Effective lane-centering and lane-change enables the Carnival to take control when changing lanes, ensuring a smooth, safe relocation. The Carnival Hybrid’s top trims also include a sizable head-up display, which indicates blind-spot warnings and lists the next navigation prompt. 

All models come standard with a center console and eight-inch infotainment screen. There’s also an optional dual-screen infotainment system that stretches across two-thirds of the Carnival Hybrid’s dash. Seven total USB ports line the Carnival’s cabin, along with two additional power outlets. A Bluetooth-enabled rear-seat entertainment system for the kids is also offered. 

In terms of cargo space, the Carnival Hybrid goes toe-to-toe with the top MPVs in its class. It’s able to fit 14 carry-on suitcases behind the third row of seats and nearly 50 suitcases total with all the seats folded down.
